i suppose my piece in a way reflects the approach and
thought process that occurred when i first considered the prompt.
i had considerable difficulty in addressing the theme(s) due to the
fact that the words used seem to have lost a sense of meaning ...
(incongruency, inconsistency, discord, disorientation, displacement, contradiction)
there are an inordinate number of incongruent, inconsistent, and
objectively contradictory actions and images that seem to separate
and surround us. yet, they're ability to cause discord, disorientation,
displacement, etc. has wained. so commonplace is the ability for one
to just move from one "channel" to another completely different
one without a moment of unsettled wonder, there seems to have
been some sort of subconscious connection made between the
"unconnectable." it relates somewhat to the idea of the kuleshov
effect inwhich one is presented with one image, and then another
from which the viewer may decide whether or not some sort of
relationship exists and what exactly that relationship is.
in my project, i chose to create a kind of thematic channel surfing
that reflects the enormous array of books, images, games, papers,
posters, etc. that engulf me and create the atmosphere that i breathe
in every morning. whether or not it makes sense or creates for the
viewer some sort of unintentional narrative or connection, i don' t
know. what i do know though is that all of these random videos,
images, and gifs makes sense to me. how? again, i really don't know.
Hi Clarence,
ReplyDeleteI understand what you set out to achieve in this project. I also don't think it is necessary to understand all the media/references you used to get a general sense of what you were implying. Couple suggestions, the keying out of your friend at the beginning I think you did in FCP - you could try in After Effects for a cleaner result. Really like the keying you did on drum kit.
Also I think you could either add more and more media to the walls as the clip progresses or since you talked about books, games etc. could have included extra scenes of book cases+ tvs to key out. Just some things to think about. good work.
