PROJECT 1: PIECE TO CAMERA

theme: What does it mean to be a contemporary artist today?
Given the openness available to artists in culture today, there is not a single answer to this question. Instead it is an opportunity to explore different aspects of contemporary art today, and respond to one or some of them. This will require some thought and research. You will need to organize your thoughts and present them in a coherent manner with visual examples and references to support your claims. Think of this as an essay in the form of a video.

Create a 2 min video that explores the conventions of the video blogging. Consider the different styles of vlogging and how this can be employed, subverted, extended, tested, experimented with to address the theme. Will you vlog in your bedroom with a webcam and single take? Will you use editing techniques to emphasize your argument? Will you start to break with convention and narrate without appearing in front of camera e.g. zero puntuation? Document your idea development, research, planning and working process on your blog. Upload to the vimeo group when completed. Failure to complete the project, upload to the vimeo group, and blog about your project by the deadline will result in a percentage reduction in grade.
