wasn't able to present in class todayy :/
sooo, here are little "blurbs" on my two vids.
the first psa i made was supposed to be a little more
"corky" and satirical in that it kind of turns the psa on
its head and promotes a message that is true, but
rarely openly promoted as a positive or a negative.
mass popular media and the proliferation of a kind of
"norm" within society that all children are brought up to
learn and obey creates for the general public a kind of
confusion as to what it is exactly that one should consider
"right" or "morally good" - if there even is such a thing.
for this piece, i considered the traditional japanese saying:
"the nail that sticks out will be hammered down ..."
in an ever growing cyber world, will those that choose to
stray from the path that our society today has decided to take
be left to simply die along the wayside?
is there any room really for those who choose to think differently
and to live a life that is not in complete sync with the general public
to be able to speak their peace and not be shunned for it?
these are honest questions that i believe are important, but tend
to be ignored by those who truly believe that they are "unique" and
truly "different" in the way that they choose to speak, act, think, etc.
but how much of who we are hasn't already been shaped and tweaked
by all the things that we are told, shown, hear, given, touched, tasted ...
the whole cyber world has also got me questioning how much of reality
is really "experienced" by young people today simply by and through
the web ... through virtual "realities" ... played and controlled by a key-
board, or like in the commercial, a gamepad or joystick.
ps. included a little tumblr meme at the end for kicks
--> also makes the video a little more "relevant" today
haha. "forever aloneeeeeeeeeeee!"
the second psa is a little bit more straightforward.
it was easier to make after i had gotten the feel of making the first.
in this piece, i decided to take a popular scene from disney's
snow white and place it over an audio poem i found on vimeo.
the content itself i'll leave for you to watch yourself.
all i'll say is that the negative implications are implied rather than
really shown. i.e. one (at least most) already knows "what" is going to happen
to the queen ... as well as what happens to those to choose meth.
the connection between the two (audio and visual) is thus tied
down by and through a kind of shared cultural knowledge and
experience ... does that make sense?
cool.
Really enjoyed the format of the PSA for your remix and the second PSA was particularly well constructed and cohesive. The first one is really quirky and felt like more of a parody. I really enjoy reading your blog - you do a great job of articulating your thoughts and processes.
