DEVELOPMENT

soo, here are the notes i scribbled down in preparation for my first "vlog":

firstly,
MY NOTES FROM CLASS:
. "intent" -> can arts sole purpose and intent be money?
thoughts on...
. mixed mediums
. copyright infringement
. repurposement of art

"intent" in terms of someone having the "intention" of creating "art"
either everything is art or has artistic potential
something stupidly "normal" or "abnormal" can become art

can everyday things be art?
"subjective" vs. "objective" art -> is there such as thing?
a greater need for interdisciplinary artists today...
. larger fusion of trades...
>> art itself as not so much of a "trade" anymore
thoughts on the categorization of art

is there such a thing as originality?
what is art? -> intention and context
-> can be used and set against itself
to challenge the boundaries of art
ex. "playing a game that isn't a game, but a piece of art..."
recreating and redefining what exists

what is the role of popularity and mass media impression on art
-> do others see what you created as "art" ?
what is the artist <-> viewer relationship?
re-manipulation of art and work...

RANDOM THOUGHTS ON THE SUBJECT:

what does it mean to be a contemporary artist in this day and age?

... to me, it has a lot to do with practice.
one has to practice and produce art to be an artist.
isn't that really the only criteria?
. its about the work itself...
the momentary bursts of creative energy that takes hold of us;
that controls and causes us to create.
. its the way sunlight hits the side of your girlfriends hair.
the curve on the ball as it speeds its way towards its goal.
. it can be anything and everything,
yet at the same time it really is nothing
. you can't just call anything art.
similarly, you can't call all numbers math or
all things with mass, science.
. its has to manipulated, tested, played with
. its the words on this page, its the cloud on your breath

. the job of the contemporary artist today, it think,
is primarily to define art
-> its not as difficult a question as one might think.
no-one "invented" art, hence you have no "OGs" really to live up to.
why worry about what others think about your opinion?
. the beautiful thing about art is that there is no-one to disappoint
. you are the creator, the master. the god of your own little planet
your own microcosm of creativity and wonder...

your greatest enemy as an artist is fear
EXPRESS YOURSELF UNASHAMEDLY!
to become an artist is
to embrace your imperfections and insecurities
to overcome your weaknesses by making them strengths

FIND the anomaly in your life
-> the one thing that you find
only gets better and better over time...

your passion, your love...

to be an artist, one has to have focus and passion.

the contemporary artist today is not exclusive.
rather, it is highly inclusive. yet, it requires certain qualities.

the aspiring perfectionist, in my opinion, is not an artist.
the stumbling, bumbling, imperfect creator on the other hand...

an artist, instead, is a searcher of beauty -> someone who
seeks not subjective perfection but who uncovers an objective,
innate beauty found in all things. he or she, however is also not
a dreamer or simply an admirer, but an active mover. an explorer,
if you will. an adventurer on a quest...

if you wanna love what you do, you gotta do what you love.

the end
